Our engineering skills are mainly focussed on complete plate ice and ice water units including refrigeration units. Since 2020, there have been many changes, some of them we did not expect, others have been beyond our imagination and the US, the Canadian as well as the South and Central American market have been greatly affected. The new processes demand centralised refrigeration systems mainly in the small to medium capacity range as complete sets of factory pre-assembled equipment rather than site-installed units. These changes come under increasing pressure to move away from high GWP refrigerants to natural refrigerants such as NH3, CO2 and more recently propane, in order to eliminate HFCs without introducing safety or health risks in the plant, a return to secondary refrigerants such as water and glycol solutions or transcritical CO2 systems for industrial applications is being promoted.
